Hyenas in general
- The Hyaena Specialist Group is part of the World Conservation Union. Its members are volunteers, and biologists who work on various research and conservation projects for hyenas -- hyena authorities and advocates, one might say. Want a hyena expert? Start looking there.
- The Hyaenidae section of the Open Directory Project. This project specializes in seeking out the best-quality links on everything, and uses only humans -- not computer programs -- to find and recommend them. Sometimes very slow or offline.

- Lioncrusher's Domain has additional info on all four species of hyenas, not to mention on other carnivores you don't often see on the Net.
- Animal Photos! has some nice photos of hyenas (mostly spotted) under the Creative Commons license.
Spotted Hyenas
- A long, excellent article along with some videos from the April 2008 issue of Smithsonian magazine on spotted hyenas in the Masai Mara, being studied by Kay Holekamp.
- Tragically, the priceless spotted hyena colony at Berkeley is now in grave danger of losing its funding.
- A lovely article in the New York Times about the intricate social lives of spotted hyenas. It's good to see articles like this in the mass media where everybody can read them!

- This page has more great information on spotted hyenas, from the Safari Companion.
- An interesting article on the clitoris of the female spotted hyena, and the bizarre spotted hyena birth process. Warning: the photos are very explicit, and one shows the dissected-out reproductive organs.
