Email in general | Flames (insulting and abusive email) | What records do I keep? My general email policy:I do not send out unsolicited email (spam), to advertise my business. Ever. Period. I do not sell email addresses to spammers. Ever. Period. Not even the addresses of flamers and right-wing trolls. If your email is not a flame, and you check the option that states you are willing to have it displayed in the Feedback section, then it may end up in the Feedback section -- but with the email address disguised to protect it from spammers. If it is not a flame, and you do not check the option that tells me it's okay to do this, then it will never be put in the Feedback section. My policy on flames:If I judge your email a flame, it may end up in the Flames section, and your address will not be disguised or otherwise protected. As I say there -- you are responsible for your own actions, and if you write me an irrational, hate-filled, obscenity-spewing or threatening email, I feel no obligation to treat you with courtesy. I do not view ALL email that expresses disagreements with me as "flames". What records I keep regarding your emailAlmost all email is permanently archived, in storage on backup CD's in my own house. These saved emails provide me with an idea of what viewers like, what they want, what sort of questions they ask, problems with the site, etc. Again, these are not exposed to spammers. Every time you visit any website, there is a very full record of your visit in at least one place -- the webserver's logs. Everywhere you go and everything you do upon the Internet, you leave tracks of one sort or another. Server logs record your IP address, what browser you're using, what operating system you're using, what time and what day you were there, what pages you saw, which page you came from, and still more. The difference with WeareSites is that I'm telling you honestly about it. And yes, I have server logs -- and sometimes I look at them. Since I do not spam you, I would appreciate not being spammed in return. |
